What are good summer plans for a college student?

Community college student..plan to transfer in two semesters to somewhere else (hopefully UCLA or Berkeley)…just wondering what are some things I could do over the summer.

I’m taking summer session (8 units) and working 11 hours a week as a tutor. I don’t feel as if that’s enough, though. Volunteering at the library for a little bit. Seems as if the "thing"for all college students to do are internships or travelling. I don’t have the expenses to travel. I don’t know where to start on internships.

Anyway, I just needed an opinion and some words of advice. Please help!

I am entering my freshman year of college this fall….and I need a job for next summer. I live in Boston, and I heard that many college students go up to Alaska for the summer to work as deckhands or in some other capacity in the fishing industry. The money is great so I hear. How can I go about applying and consequently obtaining a job as an Alaskan deckhand or a similar job. I would love to go up to Alaska and work in that beautiful state. Anyone and everyone please chime in.

When to apply for summer jobs?

Hey, I’m a high school student looking for some jobs over the summer. My only problem is deciding when I’m going to send my application to these places. Should I wait until the summer, or should I start now.

I’m only going to be working over the summer and I fear all the good jobs will be taken by college students if I wait too late. I’m 16 and I’ll be a Junior next year.

Thanks :)

How do I keep my summer students motivated?

My company hires what we call summer students. They are college students who need jobs for the summer. They do the crappy jobs that no one else wants to do or has time to do. Well, I was given 4 this summer. I work in a warehouse so the help was definitely needed. Anyways, every time I go to check on them and their progress, they are either sleeping or not doing any work. I have been very stern with them to keep them on task. I have had my supervisor come out but they just pretend like they are working. How can I get them motivated to actually do work? They have also been coming back from lunch late. My supervisor won’t do anything about all this because she is always out on business. So, I am their supervisor for the summer. I have talked to them numerous times and talked with them one on one but I can’t seem to get through to them. They think that since their parents work at our company, they can’t get in trouble. I’ve been strict. What else can I do?

I want to work over this summer, but it’s hard to find a job because the summer already has begun and college students are home. I’d truly appreciate it if you could inform me with any available jobs in Chicago for high school students.

College students: If you live on campus at a university, how did you go finding another job in your college town? Was is easy to get a job, closer to college or did you have a problem finding another job. Do you have the same summer job that you had last summer?

I’m just wondering. I’m a student at a community college and planning on tranferring to a university.

Anyone know of any good internships for the summer?

I am a college students majoring in secondary mathematics education. This is my last summer vacation and I would really like to do a summer internship. Anyone know of any good ones? It doesn’t have to be related to my major. It can be really trivial, I would just like to get away and have some fun for my last summer vacation of college.
I forgot to say, I need a paid internship. I’m broke!

I want a job in the business field, i.e. office jobs, this summer but I am in the process of getting my bachelor’s degree and do not have enough work experience. I want to build an experience and do something meaningful that will help me when I graduate. Can anyone please give good advice or ideas as to what jobs are good for college students this summer? Also, do graduates schools want to see college students "work"–even in the field that is not related to the major? such as medical receptionist, retail etc. on the resume?

DO NOT REPLY IF YOU’RE EVEN THINKING ABOUT POSTING COMMERCIAL ADS.

I know the major publications offer internships to college students, but I was wondering if you know of any New York based publications that might offer someone going into their senior year of high school a small internship, unpaid job, doing whatever, just to get the ropes?

My and my friends (six in total and all college students) would like to live in Ireland next summer. We would have to get jobs and find a place to live. I dont even know where to begin! If anybody could give me a few suggestions that would be great. Thanks

I’m looking to hire someone part time who is mature and responsible for a few hours a week or a few weeks during the summer. I’m looking for (non pay) sites where I can meet college students home for the summer who doesn’t want a full time job. Just extra cash for the summer. I’ve tried several sites that didn’t help. Any sites would be appreciated.

I see on craigslist a lot of summer jobs dealing with Saving the Environment, Stopping global warming, fighting for LGBT Rights, fighting for animal rights and so forth and they say that they offer pretty good pay 0 – 0 a week. I am wondering if these are legit jobs that college students actually earn this amount of money on?

Please let me know

Thanks

I want to intern right after I graduate from high school this June. I live in Los Angeles and I am interested in working for entertainment companies in the future. I searched many sites regarding internships, but most of them are for college students. I want some suggestions on different internships for high school graduate in the entertainment industry. By the way, I am interested in business administration, accounting, financing, and management. I will be majoring Accounting in college. Thank you.

So I live in Michigan (Which is an economic hellhole right now) and I’ve applied to all these places:

Gamestop (x3)
Kroger (x2)
Food Town
McDonalds
Burger King
Wendys
Subway
Little Ceasars (Went back in a 2nd time, and said they’d call back but didn’t)
K-Mart (Applied for an OPEN position (they had like 3), said they’d call back but didn’t)
Tim Horton’s
A Local Restaurant

Argh. I feel angry right now. I’ve attached a resume to my apps and have gone back in a 2nd time to some of these places, and I’m trying to get as many places as I can before the high schoolers in my area get out of school. I have a 3.9 GPA and I am more qualified than most people that are applying. They definitely have to be discriminating against college students right now and giving the job to older people. Are any other students having trouble finding a part time job this summer? At this point, I will keep trying, but don’t give a crap if I find one anymore bc I know that alot of people are going through the same thing I am. Share your stories lol
@Elizabeth: Our genius town decided to build more residential areas over commercial areas. Basically all we have are restaurants.
@The Boss: I have a fucking 3.9 GPA in college right now and involved in alot of activities, so shut the hell up. It’s not my fault these places refuse someone as awesome as I am.
@capwest: better than feeling sorry for yourself. I’ve been there, and I’ve turned it around.
