For teens, the competition for summer jobs is daunting and demoralizing. Less than a third of teens found jobs last summer. With today’s economy, it’s expected to worsen. Randall Pinkston reports.

Alright, so I’m fourteen years old now but in May I will turn fifteen. I need a job so that in a year i will be able to buy a cheap car that I will be able to fix up and run by the summer time. So does anyone know of a decent paying job I would qualify for? Or any ideas on where I could work? Thank You for your answers.
My roommate lived in Costa Rica during her high school years. She’s the kind of person who likes to one up on someone. Ex: "Oh you’ve been to Mexico? Yeah, I’ve been like 5 times." (she later admitted she’d only been once) and "oh, your having a bad day? Well mine was definitely worse." (someone she liked didn’t say hi to her in the hallway while my laptop had crashed and possibly destroyed all my notes before my midterm)
And so when I said I had to work since was 12 to pay for my tuition, she claimed that she’d never had a job because in Costa Rica you weren’t aloud to work until you were 18.
I know its petty, but privately I would like the confirmation that she’s exaggerating again. She was white and upper-class in Costa Rica if that makes any difference.
I really want to get a job this summer, so that I can start paying for my own clothes more often. But my problem is that there are no babysitting, petsitting, or lawnmowing gigs since every family that live near me already has teen kids to do the work and nobody that goes on vacations has a pet.
